FAQs about Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation has become so popular it’s even being discussed on programs like Jada Pinkett Smith’s new Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk. But chances are you still have questions about exactly what vaginal rejuvenation is and if it’s right for you.

What is vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure that tightens the vagina – both internally and externally. The process can improve sexual pleasure and the cosmetic look of the labia, which can change as we age.

As we get older our estrogen levels decline. Estrogen helps maintain a healthy, thick, and well-lubricated vaginal lining. When estrogen levels begin to decline the vagina becomes thinner and less elastic, which is known as vaginal atrophy. Vaginal rejuvenation is used to treat vaginal atrophy.

Vaginal rejuvenation can also be used to treat vaginal relaxation syndrome, or vaginal looseness, that can result from vaginal childbirth, a hysterectomy, or other pelvic surgery.

Who should consider vaginal rejuvenation?

Women who’ve had children, had a hysterectomy, or undergone cancer therapy (as this can reduce estrogen levels) may benefit from vaginal rejuvenation. Women who want to improve the quality of their sex life or the appearance of the vaginal area may want to consider vaginal rejuvenation, too.
How does it work?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a painless procedure during which a laser passes through the wall of the vagina to stimulate collagen formation and revitalize vaginal tissue. This can result in better vaginal lubrication, the reduction of itching and burning, and an improved sex life.

How often must the procedure be performed?

The vaginal rejuvenation process requires two 15-minute treatments four weeks apart. After the two initial treatments, patients should see their doctor for an annual maintenance treatment.
